On Friday morning I drove first to the Madison County service center, to ask about my car title, which has still not arrived. Usually, it takes about two to four weeks to get the title from the department of transportation after purchasing a car. Remember, I bought the car late in November last year. However, the lady at the counter told me the title has been processed 3 days ago and is in the mail to my address. I am looking forward to receiving the title soon. On my way back home, I made a stop at the hairdresser to get a nice hair cut before I start my new job on Monday. Great Clips is my favorite place to get a haircut. There are in my budget and the waiting time is always very short. Later in the morning Leslie came home from meridian and we went together grocery shopping to make a nice dinner. For lunch we had some leftovers at home, which was not too bad. In the afternoon we decided to go to the pool to get some of the nice sun and cool down for a bit.
Saturday morning, we packed all our camping gear together, because we decided to go camping for the weekend. It was not easy to make this decision because it is very hot outside and there are several thunderstorms forecasted. Furthermore, we were not sure how far we would like to drive to get to a nice campground. However, after some research we agreed to drive to Lake Guntersville, an hour south of Huntsville.
This turned out to be a very good decision, because it was a beautiful state park with a nice campground. Moreover, they had still some spots available close to the lake. We grabbed our spot and set up the tent before we went for a hike. There are some nice trails which started right back behind the campground. Our hike took us almost 3 hours. First along the lake and later along the golf course before the path ended at the Lodge on top of the mountain, where we could enjoy the nice view over the lake and the valley.
Back at the camp, Leslie made a nice Apéro with chips and some nice drinks, before I started cooking over the one burner stove. For diner we had pasta with a beef cheese sauce, which turned out pretty good. From our spot we had a great view over the lake and could enjoy the beautiful sunset. Once the sun was set, I stared the fire, so that we could enjoy some marshmallows over the fire. Around 10pm we were going to sleep inside the tent.
After a good night sleep, we got up very early because the sun was out and the birds where singing in the trees. First, we collapsed our tent and stored everything in the car. Then we had some breakfast before we left the campground around 08:00 am. We decided to visit another state park Buck’s Pocket which is close to the one we are at now.
Buck’s Pocket State Park was much smaller than Lake Guntersville State Park. Unfortunately, the hiking tracks where not very long, less than 1 mile and not challenging. We also checked the campground at that park, which was also not super nice. We both were happy that we stood at Lake Guntersville and not at this one. Around lunchtime we drove back to Huntsville. This was enough camping for the weekend. Back at the house we decided to go to the pool for a swim and getting some of the nice sun. Overall, it was a great weekend, and we had a lot of fun at the campground, we absolutely go camping again soon.
