Calendar Week 8 – Marco Dubler

Thursday was my day off for this week, so I could sleep in for a bit. I got up before eight o clock to answer some of the e-mail I got. It took me almost an hour to answer all the e mails. However, I had to prepare myself for the dentist appointment at summit dentist. This I the first time I went to a dentist in the US. I was due for my yearly cleaning and checking for cavities. Although it is a bit different than in Switzerland, while you are waiting on the chair you can watch TV. They took x rays first and then did the cleaning. Afterwards the doctor came to check for cavities, she showed me on the TV screen where we have to keep attention in the future. An hour later I was heading to Aldi and Kroger to get food for the next few days. I was back at the house by lunchtime to have some dinner before I prepared mums’ old bicycle to rid to the neighborhood where we build our home. The ride took me 15 minutes to get there, the weather was beautiful and there was not much traffic. At the lot I meet by random the builder and we had a short chat about the progress and what comes next. He is a nice guy, and I am looking forward to work with him.

Back at home I continued my online learning program. I attend a course to learn how to use R for data analysis and data plotting. I got introduced to R in my previous study at RGU. I like to do calculations and plod them for better understanding. I did two modules of the online course before I had to prepare the dinner. On my day of I give mum and Leslie a break from cooking, which means I am in charge for cooking. I prepared a nice chili for dinner with Fritos in it. It was delicious and we all enjoyed it. It was already late when we decided to watch some TV. I found a new series I got into it, the series is called Ozark and it is about laundering money for a Mexican cartel, it is a very entertaining series.

On Saturday evening after work, invited my family for my birthday dinner at Fulin’s a bit outside of Huntsville, this is my favorite Restaurant with delicious food and cheap beer during happy hour. We ordered appetizer and 3 main courses to share. It was a nice evening to celebrate my upcoming birthday. After a good sleep and nice rest, I called my father on Sunday morning to follow up with him. The internet connection was not great on that morning, but we were able to exchange information and keep us updated. Skype is a very handy for long distance calls, you can also share your computer screen and exchanging files while calling. Before Brake fast i made a playlist for my car and organized some documents on the computer.

Leslie made a very nice bacon egg sandwich for breakfast; it was delicious and kept me full for the whole afternoon. In the Afternoon I had a Whats App phone call with my mother back in Switzerland, to follow up and exchanging thoughts. At the same time, we let our Kittens into the backyard so they can get some fresh air and exploring new territory.

As usual on Sundays, we drove to our lot in twin creek, my goal was to take some measurement from the wastewater pipe to make sure I know where the pips run under the concrete. This mainly for maintenance reasons in the future. I took me a while to take all the measurements. Furthermore, we found a house in the neighborhood which is 2 months ahead of ours. So, we were able to see how it will look like. Additionally, we could visualize where we would like to place our furniture.

In the early afternoon, I meet with a network college from RUAG in Decatur for a beer at bridge street. We connected over LinkedIn and have not seen us in person yet. This was a good way to get know each other, to network and to follow up in a casual way. It was fun and we could exchange our thoughts and experiences.

It was already dinnertime when I came home, Leslie made nice chicken wings pita chips and a pizza. We celebrated my birthday at home with a nice meal and a cookie cake. The cookie cake was awesome I enjoyed it so much I could not stop eating. It was also time to unwrap all the presents I got from mum and Leslie. I was surprised about the presents I got because there were awesome. Thank you very much mum and Leslie.
