Calendar Week 21 – Marco Dubler

On Thursday morning I got up early because I had a job interview at 0900am. I used the time before the interview to prepare myself and read about the company on their website. The company is having five locations in Huntsville, and they have a service manager position available. After I prepared myself, I drove to the store where the interview would be held.

One I arrived, I had to wait about 20 minutes until the regional manager was available for the interview. I interview was different than what you normal expect. Instead of sitting in a room we were in the shop itself and he showed me around while he was asking periodically some questions. It was more like a conversation than an interview. I got a very good feeling about the vibes of the company. Moreover, I could show him my knowledge when we passed a car or inventory.

However, there is always the question about the money right. There is not much room to negotiate. My goal was to match the current salary. The salary has more variables, depends on performance you can earn more money on commissions. Let us see how that works out. After the interview i had the chance to go to the store where they offered me a position to meet with the general manager.

The store is only a couple miles away, so it was a short drive. One there I had a chat with the general manager, we both have similar values, we both are on the same page about managing the store and taking responsibility. After 20 minutes it was clear for him that I am the man for the position. The only thing we had to do, was finding a starting date. However, I told him I would like to think about it till the end of the day. I left the store with a good feeling. Back home, I changed cloth and Leslie and I drove to the brewery straight to ale to try their new brew. Furthermore, they had a hiring party till 0100 pm we both would like to attempt to see what jobs they offer.

The only position they had which was interesting for me was the maintenance technician. I filled out an application while we had beer and something to eat. After a while I had an interview with the current technician about the duties and responsibility in this position. It sounded interesting, I decided to send an application email with my CV later the day. On our way home we stopped at a gym close to our new neighbourhood to find out their rates and to see their equipment.

Back home I and Leslie went for our neighbourhood walk to exchange our thoughts about the two jobs and some other ongoing stuff. Once we returned, I called the guy I had an interview with this morning to confirm taking the job. I decided to invite the family for dinner at Mexican place close to our new neighbourhood to celebrate may new job. Note the notice period is only two weeks, so i will start at the 14th already at the new place. We all enjoyed the nice food at the restaurant as well as their nice margaritas. It was a nice day with a lot of things going on. I am glad everything worked out well.

On Sunday morning I finally finished the assessment from Unit 6. These assessments are very time consuming, but it really helps you to get over the whole content again and search in your notes for the answers. Unfortunately, Leslie had to go to work for the whole day. Around 11 am I drove with mum to Home Depot to get a color, to paint finally the porch in the backyard. After that we made a stop on the way home at the grocery store to buy some food for the upcoming dinner. Back home I went for my walk around the neighborhood, it was very nice day, not to hot. Later today I cut the some of the wood in the garage into smaller pieces so that they would fit in the fire pit. It was already time to prepare dinner. We had a nice BBQ and later we made some marshmallow on the fire.

This is a long weekend for my because I had Monday off too due to the Memorial Day. However, there was plenty of things to do in and around the house. In the morning I did some research about a mining company I recently read about and did calculation about that company’s ratios. I created in excel a template which does the calculations, the only thing I have to do is get a balance sheet and the earnings statement from the company. Around lunch time I made sandwiches for the whole family. Leslie had to go to work after Lunch, I went instead for t for my walk around the neighborhood, where I had the chance to speak with my mother for about 40 minutes and catch up with here. Back at the house I work on my 3D house model, this time I started to draw the sockets and the wiring.

After almost 2 hours drawing, I decided to continue my other projects, I started to build a lamp made of wine cork. Leslie brought me some corks home from work, the whole lamp needs around 100 pieces off cork. Unfortunately, I do not have the amount I need to complete the lamp. I stopped and started preparing dinner. I made Shepard pie. Right before dinner I applied a second coat of color on the back porch, so it can dry out overnight.

After dinner I went early to bead to continue reading my book and watching another episode of Goldrausch in Alaska.
