This week we had to celebrate two birthdays, my one on Wednesday and Leslie’s on Saturday. This week started off busy at work and Leslie had to work at another store this week as well. She had to go down to Meridian in Mississippi for three days, from Tuesday to Friday. Due to that fact I decided to drive to Meridian on Wednesday after work, so that we can spend some time together on Thursday during the day. Leslie had to work late shift, so we could spend some time on Thursday before work.
On Wednesday after 10 hours of work, I drove after work, down to Meridian. It took me almost 4 hours to get there. I was a long drive and i was tired from working the whole day. I arrived around 10pm at the store where Leslie is working. I had the chance to eat something and then go to the hotel room to have a shower. I had to wait until Leslie came back from work because she had to close the store. When she came back, we still had an hour left on birthday and could eat and drink something together in the hotel room.
On Thursday we slept in till 8:30 am before we got up for some breakfast in the hotel. The breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of food, not a huge variety though. After breakfast we decided to go to the Mississippi heritage museum in meridian. This Museum was a factory who produced industrial steam engines. The museum offers a glimpse at how people worked at early 20th century, some of the exhibits are in original shape, like the office who contains most of the original furniture dating back to 1930. But more impressive was the 1907 belt driven machine workshop which looks as much as it did before WWII. Back then they produced all the parts which where needed for a steam engine in house. There was a black smith, Foundry men, Journeyman machinists, pattern makers and much more. The visit at the museum was very interesting and educational.
After the museum we went for Lunch in a restaurant in old town of meridian. We both were very hungry after the self-guided tour thought the museum. Leslie found a restaurant “Wiedemann’s, which was founded by a Swiss immigrant. This restaurant has some history. We ordered a fish dish and a sandwich as well as the restaurants famous chocolate cake.
Unfortunately, around 1:30 it was time for Leslie to go back to work. I enjoyed my afternoon at the Bonita Lakes. I went for a short walk and enjoyed the warm spring weather. After the walk, I went shopping for Leslie’s birthday which came up on Saturday. I found all the presents I need and was done for the day. Back at the hotel I went quickly to the gym before I got to bed early. My plan was to sleep 4 hours until Leslie comes back from work, and then eat something with here before going back to sleep for 4 more hours. My idea was to go up at 4 am on Friday to drive back to Huntsville and go to work. Therefore, I got up at 4am and was at work just in time at 8am. However, the drive in the morning was much more comfortable than it was in the evening, on the way down to Meridian. It was a long day for me on Friday and I got tired early in the afternoon. I was relieved when I could go back home. Overall, it was a great trip, and it was worth to drive to Meridian.
Saturday it was Leslie’s birthday, I got up early to wrap all the presents I bought for her. I made a nice arrangement on the table to surprise here when she goes up. Unfortunately, I had to go to work, so we could spend the time together. I decided to leave work a bit earlier to spend more time with Leslie and the family in the evening. Leslie planned to go to Chewy`s, a Mexican restaurant south of Huntsville. I was the driver so Leslie could enjoy their margaritas. Before we went to Chewy`s, we made a stop at the Brass Bar, which is located just across the street of Chewy`s. There we enjoyed a quick apéro before our table was ready at the restaurant. The food was delicious, we ordered, Steak burrito, chicken enchiladas and a lot of margaritas. After dinner we drove back home where Leslie could unwrap here presents and enjoying the birthday cookie which mum extra bought for here. It was a nice birthday celebration, and we enjoyed the time together.
