Calendar Week 48 – Galaxy of Lights 06.12.2020

It is almost tradition for us to volunteer at the galaxy of lights in Huntsville around Christmas time. The Galaxy of Lights is a very famous event in Huntsville where a lot of people attend to drive thought. Galaxy of lights is an event where people and companies have the opportunity to show their skillset in Christmas light figures which are moving or just blinking. Is a big event as I mentioned earlier which can attract up to 1500 cars a evening. There are always four shifts per evening and six positions you could choose from. We like to volunteer as a cashier or as traffic coordinator. Their location is right at the entrance, usually it needs two traffic coordinators and four cashiers, a car counter and a supervisor. This year I choose the car counter position because the traffic coordinator position was already taken. Leslie and mum choose the cashier position which they often did in the past as well.

Between the shifts you have the chance to get some refreshments and snacks which were provided by other volunteers. This is also a good opportunity to warm yourself up and to have a chat with the other volunteers. The weather was good and almost 1000 cars came through, which is not bad for a Sunday evening. After we closed the gates, we had the opportunity to drive through by our self and taking pictures and enjoying the show as well as listening to Christmas music. It was a great evening and a good event to give something back to the Huntsville community.
