Calendar Week 47 – Buying a Car 23.11.2020

Since we arrived in the U.S., we could always use dads or mum’s car to drive around. Since I got a job and Leslie had here first interview we have to look out for our own cars. There is no public transportation we could take to go to work, so it has to be a car or a motorcycle. To me it does not matter which car I get, the only must is that it has a clean title and is in a good shape. Furthermore, it must be a fuel-efficient car. On the other hand, Leslie is more specific about the make and model of the car, for here it is also important that the car comes from a dealership whereas I prefer to buy from a private person. I manly use Facebook market to find cars and get in contact over the messenger with the seller. However, I experienced that most of the cars are not in a good shape and people did not take good care. I ran out to check out a few cars in the last few weeks and so far, there was not a winner. While Leslie drove o the local Volkswagen dealership where she found a nice VW Jetta. After work I joined here at the dealership to inspect the car and to test drive it. The car was in a very good condition and the previous owner took good care of it. After the test drive, we met the salesperson to negotiate about the price. After back and forth we found an agreement and Leslie was the new owner of the car. Not far after I found on Facebook a nice Smart car for sale, this type of car is very rare in the south, because it’s not a typical American car. However, I met the seller on Sunday afternoon, where I test drove the car. The Smart car was in great condition, has a clean title and was very clean inside and outside. The only thing is, I have to buy new rear tires and the service is due. I thought this is a good handle to negotiate with the price, unfortunately the price was settled, and I bought the car as is. Now we have two cars, and we are able to drive wherever we would like to go.
