After my Green Card arrived earlier in September, I started to apply for jobs in the Huntsville area, in the field of aviation and automotive. Something I learned quickly is that if you are a Green Card holder, you can apply for jobs, but you are not a Citizen you are Permanent resident and that is significant difference, especially when it comes to for work for the government or suppliers how work with the government. However, a found several jobs I could apply to and where I was qualified for. I noticed as well that it is essential to have at least a bachelor’s degree, therefore I am glad I studied an extra year at Robert Gordon University to achieve a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Nevertheless, I applied for a company in the automotive sector last Friday, only 24h later I received a message that they are interested and would like to have an Interview. I was very happy about that e-mail and I sorted out an Interview appointment for Monday afternoon only 3 days later after I applied. I mainly used the weekend to prepare myself for the interview, got familiar with the company ( E.g. what is there Vision, Mission and Core values, what has the company achieved in the last few years, how is the company reputation) and read several articles about how to perform in Interview. Furthermore, I prepared a few questions I would like to ask my interviewer, for example:
- How would you describe the working culture in the store?
- What are the biggest challenges in this role?
- How do you measure success in this role?
- Do you have any questions or concerns about my qualifications?
I drove well prepared and a bit nervous to the interview appointment, it took me about 20 minutes to drive there. When I arrived, I had to wait for 10 minutes before the interview started.
First, I had to answers questions about myself, my work experience, and my education. It was I great talk and could express myself very well and pointed out some key skills which are required for this job. After one hour I had the chance to ask my questions, which were answered in very detail. However, after two hours I was finished with the interview, and I left the store with a good feeling. They told me they will call me as soon as they made their decision. I have to await and see what happens next.
